Caliper touching the wheel when in reverse.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Notice the lack of a gap. Other side for reference:

Think it might have something to do with these sad looking ball joints?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Oh well. Going to have to drive 200 miles home on it. Wish me luck.

Ball joints shouldn’t affect the caliper’s relationship to the wheel... a severely worn wheel bearing will, or a bent caliper bracket/mount/knuckle.

I did do the brakes about 2 months ago. It is possible I didn’t repack the bearings right, but they would have had some sort of warning sign of going out, right?

The mount is just two screws, so maybe one of them came off?

I still think the ball joints have been causing the annoying clunk when I go over bumps in the road.

I’d guess bearing, since the ball joint would force the caliper and rim to move in unison.

Not a ball joint. It’s either loose lug nuts, loose caliper bolts, or loose wheel bearing. Driving on it sounds like a bad idea.

One of the caliper bolts are out, it just happened to my inlaws and I didn’t let them leave my house.

Always locktite the caliper bolts from now on. A new set of caliper bolts are $6-8.

Just realized it’s missing. Going to drive real slow across town to get some.

I had one come out on my 530i. Horrible noise as the caliper rubbed on the inside of the wheel. Drove it home, parked it, Googled the symptoms and inspected it myself. No stores carried the bolt, so I went to a hardware store and found a bolt with a similar diameter and a similar threat what was 5 millimeters shorter. It's been a year and it still works fine
